Service Multimedia messaging service (MMS) is a new
development in mobile telecommunication messaging. It is an
enhanced messaging technology from short messaging service
(SMS). MMS allows its users to send more than just plan words
by incorporating, in messages, sound and image.
With the new technology in mobile telecommunication, users
are enabled to send and receive not only more enhanced messages
between mobile phones, but also between mobile phones and
email. This has been the reason for MMS to be more and more
widely used for personal and business purposes. Due to its
versatility, MMS has made itself to be a new technology that
can be used for many purposes.
MMS is also very user-friendly. Users are able to create,
delete and edit on MMS enabled mobile phones without any incorporation
of complicated software. Because it is an extension of SMS,
it is highly adoptable to the generation which is already
familiar with SMS.
For more high end users, MMS is compatible to JPEG, GIF,
AMR voice and many other common formats. MMS also handles
unsupported formats in a controlled way. MMS is also developed
for an open industry network. Hence, MMS are able to be communicated
in existing networks and protocols.
Even though MMS has so far been a very high performance technology,
but its transmission time still depends on the size of the
