Comparison – Apple iPhone 5S vs HTC One
The Apple iPhone 5S was launched with understated fanfare this week, bringing increased competition while the HTC One was announced on 20th February 2013 and arrived in Malaysia within months. As is wont with new iPhones, the iPhone 5S is expected in Malaysia in about 3 months time by December of this year.
Apple iPhone 5S has the same dimensions as the iPhone 5 but will receive a processor upgrade to a quad-core A7 chip which is said to be twice as fast as the A6 in its predecessor and shares its processing duties with the new M7 co-processor which handles the secondary functionality like the gyroscope or accelerometer. Meanwhile the HTC One is powered by a quad-core, 1.7 GHz Krait 300 processor with 2GB RAM, compared to the 1GB memory in the 5S.
The 5S has a 640×1136 pixel Retina display which is LED-backlit but rather small at 4-inches, especially when its next to the 4.7-inch HTC One, which has a 1080×1920 pixel Super LCD3 display.
Apple will also come with a 8-megapixel camera for the iPhone 5S’s iSight setup and an improved Facetime camera. The HTC One comes with a camera that is able to record and playback videos at 1080p, but only has a 4-megapixel which utilises UltraPixel technology so the shots in dark lighting look better. The iPhone 5S compensates for this with a dual-LED True Tone flash but does not produce quite as good quality in similar lighting conditions. The 5S does have a maximum resolution of 3264×2448 which is significantly better than the One’s 2688x1520p resolution.
Apple has included the next generation of its very own operating system iOS 7, with a host of new feature additions. On the other hand, the HTC One runs on Android OS, v4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) out-of-the-box, but is upgradable to v4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) The One comes with either 32GB or 64GB of built-in storage just like the iPhone 5S- but the 5S also has a smaller 16GB version.
