UniFi and Streamyx subscribers can enjoy over 10000 hours of premium Asian TV shows and dramas for free starting from March 2016 thanks to Telekom Malaysia (TM) recent partnership with leading Asian video-on-demand service VIU.

If you’re either a UniFi or Streamyx subscriber, you can enjoy VIU’s premium content for 3 months, along with other TM’s offerings such as 1 year iFlix subscription and HyppTV. VIU offers its users instant access to premium content sourced from Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, India, Indonesia and Malaysia on multi-platforms and devices.

Do note that UniFi subscribers will be the first to receive the 3 months free premium subscription in mid-march while Streamyx customers will receive the premium subscription slightly later due to technology differences.

“We are excited to be a strategic partner of PCCW. We are able to offer an even wider choice of content and entertainment to our broadband customers nationwide through PCCW’s media company Vuclip for the first time in Malaysia,” says TM group CEO Tan Sri Zamzamzairani.

Do note that VIU is accessible on desktops browsers, and smartphones/tablets via apps that is available on Google Play and App Store.

VIU offers over 3700 hours of Korean dramas and variety series from Korea’s broadcasters KBS, MBC, SBS and CJ, including shows such as Oh My Venus, Moorim School, Six Flying Dragons, My Love From The Star, The Heirs and Running Man.

Some Korean dramas will feature English subtitles 8 hours after its official premier and in Bahasa Malaysia within 24 hours. Other Korean content will also offer Bahasa Malaysia, English and Chinese subtitles.

VIU also mentioned that over 70% of its TV shows and drama will come in full HD while the rest comes in either 720p or standard definition. Unlike Netflix, VIU doesn’t offer 4K content and has no plans of introducing it for now.

If you can’t wait for TM’s free premium subscription, you can sign up and start watching VIU as their service is already available in Malaysia. Do note that VIU is based on a freemium model which means don’t have to pay for subscription but have to sit through ads. However if you’re willing to pay RM10 a month, you will not be bothered by ads and have access to premium content.
