The launch of the Huawei Mate X has been delayed to September 2019

The launch of the Huawei Mate X has been delayed to September 2019, according to a new report.  The reason for the delay is partially attributed to the problems that were faced by Samsung Galaxy Fold. For the most part Huawei wants to prevent the troubles that Samsung had to experience when the Galaxy Fold failed in the hands of early testers.

Additional testing is being conducted with telcos the world over alongside developers to ensure the Huawei Mate X works as intended. The situation with the US government also prevented a timely launch for the device. In any case, the Huawei Mate X will still be launched with the Android OS since the foldable smartphone was technically launched at MWC 2019, which is long before sanctions. As such, the device falls under the purview of the temporary licence provided to Huawei that allows it to run the OS.
