Telegram CEO claims DDoS attack from China during protests in Hong Kong

Via its official Twitter account, Telegram revealed earlier in the week that its service went through a powerful DDoS attack, which it subsequently attributed to China.

During the attack, the company claims that the majority of IP addresses of the attacks came from China, and the timing coincided with protests that took place in Hong Kong.

Telegram is one of the more widely used messaging app in Hong Kong, due to its encrypted peer-to-peer messaging algorithm. It is worth noting, that this isn’t the first time Telegram had been attacked with a DDoS back in 2015, just as China was about to crack down on human rights lawyers within the country.
