Shipment of Huawei smartphones likely to drop at least 40%

Ren Zhengfei, CEO of Huawei, has confirmed that it shipments of smartphones in 2019 are likely to decline by 60mn units, or between 40% and 60%. Zhengfei confirmed it while speaking with journalists for American Wired and Forbes.

In 2018, Huawei had sold 206mn units of smartphones globally. Growth for the first quarter of 2019 was stable, with global shipments at 59mn units, up 50.3% year-on-year. The figures made Huawei the second biggest smartphone make during the period. Things haven’t shaped up to be good for Huawei following the ban however, as shown in the latest projections. With Google’s policy response, Huawei has had to delay the launch of devices such as the Honor 20. For the time being, Huawei seeks to overturn its fortune with the release of its Hongmeng operating system.
