Samsung Galaxy M20 : A Basic Phone with Features You Get from Higher End Siblings.

Samsung debuts it’s first Galaxy M series in Malaysia with the M20 last month and most likely the respond will be good due to the very affordable RM799 price tag. So what do you get for that 3 digit Ringgit Malaysia value? Will it be similar to “those” basic low end Chinese branded phones? So here are the components Samsung built into this M series…

The Power

It is powered by Samsung’s latest Exynos 7904 Octa-core processor  with 4GB of RAM. If the 64GB internal storage is non-sufficient for your photo shoot outs, you can still add up to 512GB in the memory expansion slot.

The Screen

The M20 features a 6.3″ Full HD+ and Infinity-V Display that provides edge-to-edge coverage for your gaming and youtub-ing needs. The screen does come with a notch which looks like someone is taking a peek on you. For those notch haters, there is a setting which enable you to remove the notch. Well, not remove but a setting to hide the camera.

The slim bezels with a screen-to-body ratio of over 83% does look pleasing to the eyes.

The screen does not really reveal itself when confronted with the sun. Reading my messages requires a little squinting of my eyes.

The Juice

I am quite impressed with the power plant built on this reasonable slim phone. We are talking about 5,000mAh (typical) battery with fast-charging support for your night and day usage.

The Camera

The rear gets two types of shooting angles. The Wide and the Ultra-Wide.

13 megapixels and 5 megapixels (ultra-wide lens) produces acceptable pictures.

The front single selfie camera comes with a single 8-megapixel sensor does what it supposed to do.

The Built

I was quite surprise how Samsung managed to fit in a 5,000mAH battery and still made it slim and feels great on a grip.

The back has a reasonable smooth plastic with a glossy finish which will expect tons of scratches if a casing is not fitted on a daily use. Placement of the fingerprint reader is a tad too high but still manageable with a slight stretch.

The phone comes in two conventional colours which Samsung calls it Ocean Blue and Charcoal Black.

Conclusion

Pros

  • Great Battery capacity with fast charging.
  • Great FHD+ Display for the price.
  • Has a USB Type-C slot

Cons

  • The Notch is there although small.
  • Should have Stereo speakers.

The Galaxy M20 is only available online via https://www.samsung.com/my/ and https://shopee.com.my/ at RM799.
