In the days leading up to the World Mobile Congress this week, processor chip manufacturer Nvidia has reached a notable step in their quest to dent Qualcomm’s dominance of the mobile chip producing space, and in the same stroke build towards the ultimate “mainstream superphone”.

Nvidia felt confident enough in their offerings by announcing the arrival of the Tegra 4i processor, the first chip to combine both the applications processor and LTE modem on the same silicon surface. To show off the capabilities of the ultrafast LTE connectivity adequately, Nvidia has also now presented the Nvidia Phoenix smartphone to be the first mobile platform to utilise the Tegra 4i.

While it seems curious that Nvidia developed and manufactured a 5-inch handset with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, 13-megapixel camera, and integrated 4G LTE support just to test their mobile processor, the full HD 1080p display resolution shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Nvidia is touting the Phoenix to boast some of the best graphical performances ever to be seen on a smartphone screen- thanks to the Tegra 4i, of course.

However, in the hands-on video demonstrated by The Verge, the Phoenix still seems in early development stages yet, so it is hard to comment on whether the Tegra 4i is almost as good as the well-received Tegra 4, or even compared to the earlier Tegra 3.

Better to watch the video and decide if the Android Nvidia Phoenix and its Tegra 4i processor are worth the wait for the first supposed “superphone”.In the days leading up to the World Mobile Congress this week, processor chip manufacturer Nvidia has reached a notable step in their quest to dent Qualcomm’s dominance of the mobile chip producing space, and in the same stroke build towards the ultimate “mainstream superphone”.
