Microsoft ditches Hotmail, launches Outlook.com

01 August 2012 – Microsoft’s email application is getting an overhaul, with the company unveiling Outlook.com, its new online email portal with a slew of new features on the side.
As far as the inbox goes, Outlook.com automatically detects emails that are newsletters and places them in a separate folder, while giving users the option to unsubscribe it as well. The new inbox also provides ‘sweep’ operation functionality which only keeps the latest message from a particular sender and delete previously sent messages. Outlook.com has also social networking integrations including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. For example it has incorporated Facebook’s instant messaging system as well, so users can connect with their Facebook friends directly from their inboxes.
Best of all, users can access Microsoft’s productivity suite applications that include Word, Excel, SkyDrive and PowerPoint directly from their inboxes. The company also promises Skype support sometime down the line.
