08 July 2012 – The LG Optimus Black was announced back at CES 2011 and the Optimus L7 was announced in February 2012.

The Optimus L7 and Optimus Black are mid-range Android smartphones that are powered by a 1GHz single core processor with 512MB of RAM. Both phones are equipped with a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, as well as a front facing camera for video chats. LG decide to use IPS display technology for the display of both phones, as well as attaching a scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass.

On the exterior, the Optimus L7 is a little bigger (125.5 x 67mm vs 122 x 64mm) than the Optimus Black, but thinner (8.7 vs 9.2mm) than its older cousin. It has a bigger display (4.3 vs 4.0-inch) than the previous year’s model, but retains the same 480 x 800 resolution pixels. The phone is running on the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) with the LG Optimus user interface. It has double (4GB vs 2GB) the internal storage that can be found in the Optimus Black.

On the other hand, the Optimus Black is lighter than the Optimus L7 by 13 grams. The phone originally shipped with Android 2.2 Froyo, but it is upgradeable to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Even though the phone was LG’s last year’s model, the phone is equipped with a more powerful Cortex-A8 processor and a better PowerVR SGX530 GPU. Perhaps, this is the reason that the price of the Optimus Black is 10% more than the Optimus L7.

Connectivity-wise, both phones support HSDPA, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth and GPS. They also accept microSD cards up to 32GB.

If you are seeking a phone with a snappy performance, we would recommend you the Optimus Black over the Optimus L7. On the other hand, if you are feeling a little price conscious, then the Optimus L7 would be an excellent option.
