06 July 2012 – Today we will be comparing two Sony devices which are currently still unavailable in the market. However, the two devices were recently announced with full details on their specs and features. For starters, I will let you know that the Xperia Miro is a mid-range device while the Xperia Tipo is a low-end smartphone. Read on to learn about their differences.

First of all, both devices use the same 800MHz Snapdragon processor by Qualcomm. They both also run on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). However, the similarities end here as the obvious difference between the two devices is that the Xperia Miro offers a front-facing camera while the Xperia Tipo does not.

The Xperia Miro offers a slimmer chassis compared to the Xperia Tipo (9.9mm vs 13.0mm). It uses a LED backlight for its LCD screen while the Xperia Tipo uses the thin-film transistor (TFT) for its LCD screen. The Xperia Miro also offers a slightly larger screen size (3.5-inch vs 3.2-inch) and also a larger internal storage capacity (4GB vs 2.5GB). It also features a 5-megapixel rear camera while the Xperia Tipo rear camera only supports up to 3.2-megapixels.

On the other hand, the Xperia Tipo offers a lighter chassis (99.4grams vs 110grams). Also, despite having a smaller screen, the Xperia Tipo offers a higher pixel density (~180ppi vs ~165ppi) since both the devices have the same 320 x 480 pixels.

You can see that despite being the lower-end phone, the Xperia Tipo still uses the same 800MHz processor and running on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). So you can still expect a similar user-interface experience from both devices.

Since the two devices are still unavailable, we are unable to compare their prices for the better value phone. However, from past experience we can expect that the Xperia Tipo will offer a better value with its similar features. And that is only if you can accept the lack of video-calling.
