26 July 2012 – Samsung has rolled out an OTA update for the Galaxy S III to disable internal search functionality. The update is a precautionary measurement from Samsung after the temporary ban of the Galaxy Nexus due to the patent dispute with Apple.

After installing the patch, the search functionality of the Galaxy S III is limited to web searches. This means you can not search for contacts, media files or apps. According to Android Central, the international variant of the Galaxy S III was also affected by the patch.
If you really rely on the “universal search functionality”, probably you should considering skipping this update for now.
