By Nigel Chew
24 July 2012 – Count them. According to Reuters, Amazon is on the verge of unleashing six new Kindle Fires, one of which is a 10-inch model that is meant go head on with Apple’s offering.
Reuters report the following:
Amazon is to introduce up to five or six tablet SKUs, or stock-keeping units, according Demos Parneros, president of U.S. Retail for Staples Inc (SPLS.O), which sells the Fire.
The tablets will be different sizes, including a 10-inch model, Parneros said. Amazon spokespeople declined to comment on the company’s plans.
Amazon’s current tablet which is now nearly a year old started off very well when it first made its debut. Sales have since slowed down with the customers taking notice of the drawbacks that came about from everything being on that price point. The introduction of the Google’s Nexus 7 tablet has also become a threat, so Amazon will have to step things up.
