Comparison – Samsung Galaxy mini vs Samsung Galaxy mini 2
By Nigel Chew
15 June 2012 – The Samsung Galaxy mini kicked off the trend of affordable, yet well equipped smartphones that were targeted at the younger crowd, as well as first time smartphone users. The Samsung Galaxy mini 2 hopes to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor with improved hardware.
While not immediately noticeable, the Samsung Galaxy mini 2 has a bigger 3.27-inch screen, as opposed to the 3.14-inch one on the original mini. More importantly, the bump in screen size also brought along a new screen type on the mini 2, which now features HVGA display technology, allowing for shaper and clearer text cum images.
The mini 2 now also sports a faster 800MHz processor, a slight improvement over the 600MHz processor seen on the mini. Samsung was also kind enough to provide a lot more internal storage space this time around by offering 4GB of ROM for you to start off with. In comparison the original mini had only a measly 160MB of ROM.
The battery has also been given a small boost in the mini 2 (1300 mAh) over the mini’s 1200 mAh one. The most significant addition to the mini 2 has definitely got to be the built-in NFC chip. While not fully useful at this point in time, the mini 2 will be among the first few budget devices to feature this technology.
In conclusion, the mini 2 has surpassed its predecessor in every aspect imaginable, and with the same low price point, Samsung has created yet another winner in the budget device category.
