Apple files claim to get iphone5.com domain

07 May 2012 - Hints of the next iPhone's name may just popped-up after Apple filed a claim with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) to gain ownership of the domain iphone5.com which is currently a forum.
The WIPO filing may suggest that Apple at least considered 'iPhone 5' as a name. However, with Apple changing the iPad’s naming conventions - from the iPad 3 to simply the new iPad - we wouldn't be too quick to peg the next iPhone necessarily as the iPhone 5.
It could just be Apple trying to avoid confusion among consumers who might think the domain is affiliated with company. Those in the forums didn't take to kindly to what they see as Apple trying to take control of their site, a commenter on the site said they 'fans of the iPhone' and 'should stand our ground against Apple'.
Apple had previously turned to WIPO to obtain other domains in the past, back in November the company took down seven iPhone domain names, including the saucy iphonesex4s.com.
