27 May 2012 - According to Canada's The Globe and Mail, RIM maybe cutting ‘at least’ 2000 jobs within the next couple of weeks. Reuters has reported that the layoffs could go as high as 6000 jobs.

The move is similar to last summer's layoffs where 2000 employees were laid off and a number of executive were shuffled around. The Globe and Mail reported that the executive vice president of global sales, Patrick Spence, had resigned from earlier this week.
Several people close to the company are saying that worldwide layoffs could start on June 1st and will hit "senior positions in RIM's legal division to human resources, finance, sales and marketing."
It is no secret that the Waterloo-based phone maker is dire straits, with the company reporting a poor Q4 earning report in March which saw a 21 percent drop in shipments.
Reportedly New CEO Thorsten Heins is cutting his workforce to keep RIM afloat long enough to push out new BlackBerry 10 devices, which will in turn revive the ailing company.
