14 May 2012 - According to multiple publications on the Internet, Apple is going to drop Google Maps for the next iteration of iOS. Apple picked up a number of mapmakers and is getting ready a new Maps app with an Apple back-end instead of a Google one.

A 3D rendering of San Francisco
9to5mac reports Cupertino has purchased Placebase, C3 Technologies and Poly 9 that will help Apple create a map database. But its ace up the sleeve is the new 3D mode from C3 based off declassified missile-targeting technology, so expect some photorealistic cities in those maps.
Those rumours also point to a WWDC unveiling next month.
