Comparison - Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) vs Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1)
by Lim Pei Hao
29 April 2012 – Both the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) and the Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) were announced in February 2012 during MWC.
Both Samsung tablets are equipped with a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and run on Android 4.0 with the TouchWiz UX user interface. On the imaging aspect, they both have a 3-megapixel primary camera and VGA front facing camera. They are capable of recording HD video. However, we expect most people would use it sparingly as compared to the camera on their smartphones.
Samsung also offer up to 32GB internal storage and a microSD card slot that accepts cards up to 32GB for both tablets. Connectivity-wise, the two tablets support HSDPA 21Mbps, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 and GPS. Both tablets are able to make and receive calls (except for the WiFi variant).
At a glance, the Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) has a bigger display (10.1-inch vs 7-inch) and a higher display resolution (800 x 1280 vs 600 x 1024 resolution pixels) than its smaller brother. A bigger display and higher resolution makes it great for watching videos and playing games. In addition, you would have extra real estate to manipulate around with your apps.
On the other hand, the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) triumphs over its bigger sibling in its smaller form factor and lighter in weight (344 vs 588g). The smaller tablet in size makes it convenient to carry around, especially when it can easily slot into a man’s back jeans pocket or a lady’s handbag.
To choose between the 7-inch or 10.1-inch model, consider yourself whether portability is a need. The 7-inch Galaxy Tab 2 is a small and light tablet, thus making it an excellent tablet to carry around. Plus, you can also make or receive calls easily from your tablet with the built-in earpiece on the top, if you do not mind the awkward positioning.
On the other hand, the 10-inch tablet could be a good multimedia tablet on the go. At the time of writing, no official pricing is available for either of the tablets, but we could expect that the 10.1-inch tablet will cost about 15% more than the 7-inch tablet.
