25 April 2012 – Google has officially unveiled its cloud based storage service, Google Drive today. It now replaces the existing Google Docs, however, other than the name change and increase in web storage, all other features remain the same.

In addition, Google is also offering an app which you can installed in your PC, Mac or Android devices, allowing you to sync seamlessly across multiple platforms without any hassle.

The entire experience does not make Google Drive any different from the existing Dropbox and Box, but its unique search algorithm is able to search images, even without any relevant title on the image. For example, if you uploaded some photos about a building and you can search it by typing general keywords like “building” or “tower”.

Furthermore, you are allowed to expand your storage option all the way up to 16TB which cost $799.99 (approx. RM 2450) per month.

Unfortunately, the service is not ready for everyone yet. You will get a “notify me” button where Google will contact you as soon as Google Drive is available.  Or if you are lucky enough, you will be able to see the “Get started with 5GB free” button immediately.

Google Drive app for iPhone and iPad will be out soon, as All Things D reported that Google's Senior VP of Chrome and Apps Sundar Pichai said “(the) iOS (version) is 98 percent done”.
