18 April 2012 - On Monday, HTC announced that CFO Winston Yung had been replaced by Chang Chia Lin.
HTC did not officially address the reason for the move, but it is reported that the purchase of Beats Audio - which has ended with HTC taking their Beats earplugs from their smartphone - may have influence the Taiwanese firm’s decision to move him into a corporate development role.
Yung's move was also on the back on a slightly disappointing Q4 earnings report. The former CFO was also involved in HTC's Studio, which intended to turn HTC around by focusing on a set of "worldwide flagship products".
CEO Peter Chou however addressed media speculation and said that Chang's appointment was due to (Yung's) investments in Beats by Dre is 'categorically inaccurate'.
He continued, "HTC and Beats have made impressive progress in innovation and brand awareness and the integration of the Beats brand and technology in the new HTC One series is a clear indication of our commitment to this partnership".
New CFO Chang was an engineer at Motorola and a Goldman Sachs partner.
