19 September 2011 ?The BlackBerry Bold 9900 and Samsung Galaxy S II are among the best devices in their class, and is distinct enough in their looks and specifications to cater to different consumers with different needs.

At 115 x 66 x 10.5 mm, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 is the thinnest BlackBerry device available in the market at time of writing, weighing 130 grams. Conversely, the Samsung Galaxy S IIís 125.3 x 66.1 x 8.49 mm dimensions makes it the thinnest Android-based smartphone around, not to mention the lightest, at 116 grams.

The BlackBerry Bold 9900ís 2.8-inch, 480 x 640 pixel display may seem smaller than the Samsung Galaxy S IIís 4.3-inch, 480 x 800 pixel screen, but that is because the former has to house a full-fledged QWERTY keyboard.

In terms of processors, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 beats its kin with a 1.2GHz processor, though the Samsung Galaxy S II has a dual-core 1.2GHz equivalent underneath. That said, none of these devices struggle to run or multitask, so speed ratings are somewhat irrelevant here.

For the photobugs, the BlackBerry Bold 9000 has a 5.0-megapixel shooter with 720p video recording. The Samsung Galaxy S II on the other hand has a more impressive 8.0-megapixel camera that allows for Full HD 1080p video recording.

Hardware-wise, both devices have been impressive so far, therefore the operating systems on these two is what will set them apart ?The BlackBerry Bold 9900 ships with the BlackBerry OS7, while the Samsung Galaxy S II serves Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) to begin with.

The BlackBerry brand has always somewhat marketed itself towards the more professional/enterprise users, though the Samsung Galaxy S IIís sleek looks and impressive hardware makes it a perfect companion for just about anyone. The presence of a keyboard on the BlackBerry Bold 9900 will probably sway the vote for some, but chances are if you are reading this, you are still wondering which of the two to pick, in which case, our vote goes to the Samsung Galaxy S II for its overall functionality and design.
