30 August 2011 Nokia is going for a head start in the near-field communications (NFC) arena, by introducing an NFC in all of its future devices. The announcement was made at a Nokia presentation in Hong Kong.

Nokia's vice president Ilari Nurmi said Espoo will be aggressively promoting NFC. "From now on, all of our products will have an NFC chip inside. All other NFC-equipped devices can also link to our products".

He added that Asia-Pacific is a major market for NFC.

NFC allows for transactions, data exchange, and wireless connections between two devices by touch or close proximity. Nokia last week announced three budget smartphones with NFC the Nokia 701, 700 and 600, that will be able to pair with NFC-enabled mobile accessories such as speakers, Bluetooth headphone and headsets with a tap.

Nokia plans to embed NFC into its Windows Phone 7 line-up as well.
