Comparison - Apple iPhone 4 vs HTC Evo 3D
by Jonathan Cheah
Both the HTC Evo 3D GSM and the Apple iPhone 4 are quad-band devices. The HTC Evo 3D GSM weighs 170g and the Apple iPhone 4 weighs 137g. The HTC Evo 3D GSM displays 540 x 960 pixels onto a 4.3-inch screen and the Apple iPhone 4 displays 640 x 960 pixels onto a 3.5-inch screen. The Apple iPhone 4 appears to have better resolution from these specifications.
The HTC Evo 3D GSM uses a dual-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor to drive Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread). The Apple iPhone 4 uses a 1 GHz single-core Apple A4 processor to drive iOS.
Both the HTC Evo 3D GSM and the Apple iPhone 4 have a 5-megapixel main camera. The HTC Evo 3D GSM has a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera while the Apple iPhone 4 has a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera. Both the HTC Evo 3D GSM and the Apple iPhone record video at 1280 x 720 (720p HD). In addition, the HTC Evo 3D GSM has a dual-lens camera that is capable of recording 5-megapixel 3D photos and 720p (30 fps) 3D videos.
The HTC Evo 3D GSM has only 1 GB of storage but the Apple iPhone 4 comes in 16GB and 32 GB versions. However, the HTC Evo 3D GSM accepts microSD cards of up to 32 GBs while the Apple iPhone 4 does not accept expansion cards of any sort.
The HTC Evo 3D GSM has a faster processor than the Apple iPhone 4. However, the Apple iPhone 4 has better onboard storage and display resolution.
Even though the Apple iPhone 4 is about a year older than the HTC Evo 3D GSM, we find the devices to be almost similar and we would therefore expect the yet unannounced price for the HTC Evo 3D GSM to be fairly close to the Apple iPhone 4.
If that is the case, we would venture that it comes down to the 3D camera of the HTC Evo 3D GSM against the branding and applications available to the Apple iPhone 4. We would recommend the HTC Evo 3D GSM, but its onboard storage of 1 GB is rather pathetic. You would need to think about this before making a buy decision.
