Comparison - Nokia E6 vs E7

30 June 2011 – The Nokia E6 and E7 are business centric smartphones. These two smartphones are separated with a distinctive form factor. The Nokia E7 is a full QWERTY slider phone and the Nokia E6 is a candy bar phone with a full QWERTY keyboard below the screen.  

At a glance, the Nokia E7 is bigger and heavier than the Nokia E6. Most probably the sliding keyboard and the bigger screen contribute to the weight of the Nokia E7. The Nokia E7 has a dimension of 123.7 x 62.4 x 13.6mm and weighs 176g, whereas the Nokia E6 has a dimension of 115.5 x 59 x 10.5mm and weighs 133g. The screens on both devices are equipped with the standard scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass. The advantage of Nokia E7 is that it has a 4-inch AMOLED LCD screen with Nokia ClearBlack technology. On the other hand, the Nokia E6 has a typical 2.46-inch LCD display. 

Under the hood, both Nokia E6 and E7 are equipped with a solo-core ARM processor. The Nokia E7 is powered by a slightly higher clock speed processor at 680MHz as compared to the Nokia E6 which has 600MHz processor. The Nokia E6 has 8GB internal storage and supports microSD card up to 32GB. In contrast, the Nokia E7 is only restricted to 16GB of internal storage, and does not support any microSD card. 

In addition, both Nokia E6 and E7 are running on Symbian^3 OS. The Nokia E6 is running the latest Symbian Anna. Symbian Anna is the updated version of Symbian^3, which features improves user interface, a revamped web browser, enhanced Ovi Maps, portrait keyboard and more. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, the Nokia E7 won’t be getting the Anna update until this July. 

Both devices are equipped with 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash. The camera also has the capability of recording HD video at 720p. 

In terms of battery, the Nokia E6 has higher talk time and standby time than the E7. The Nokia E6 has about 28 days of standby time and has up to 14 hours of talk time on GSM line. The Nokia E7 has about 18 days of standby time and has up to 9 hours of talk time on GSM line. 

Nokia E6 or E7? If you are particular about the size and weight of the phone, go ahead with the Nokia E6. We still favor the Nokia E7 over the E6 for a bigger screen, larger internal memory and a sliding keyboard that stands out.

Nokia E6 (RM RM 1030 – RM 1060) 

3.5G HSDPA 10.2Mbps + WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, 2.46-inch Touchscreen, Qwerty keyboard, 8-megapixel Camera, 8 GB Memory  

The Nokia E6 does share a resemblance of the BlackBerry Bold smartphone. It has a 2.46-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 640 by 480 pixels. Plus, a full QWERTY keyboard is located below the screen that gives the user the option of touch and type. This hybrid improves user’s productivity and efficiency, as user can benefit from much faster text-entry from a QWERTY keyboard and a touch screen to interact with the app.  

The device comes with 8GB of internal memory and support for MicroSD cards up to 32GB. The battery is a removable Nokia BP-4L 1500mAH. It also offers WiFi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, Bluetooth 3.0 and GPS. The 8-megapixel camera has dual-LED flash, and has the capability of recording HD video at 720p.

Nokia E7 (RM 1435 – RM 1515) 

3.5G HSDPA 10.2Mbps + WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, 4.0-inch Touchscreen, Qwerty Slider, 8-megapixel Camera, 16 GB Memory  

Nokia E7 is the Symbian ^3 OS powered smartphone with a tilting slide-out QWERTY keyboard.  

The specs include a camera resolution of 8-megapixels with autofocus and dual LED flash. The Nokia E7 supports video recording up to 25fps and additional LED video light. This phone has a 16M colour display, super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, scratch resistant surface, touch sensitive controls, proximity sensor for auto turn-off.  

Nokia E7 has features including Document viewer (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF), TV-out (720p video) via HDMI and composite, Digital compass, Dolby Digital Plus via HDMI- Anodized aluminum casing, Voice command/dial, Video/photo editor, Flash Lite v4.0, etc.
