10 May 2011- The ZTE Light and Huawei Ideos S7 are both Android tablets, and they have been in the market for a few months now. The ZTE Light and Huawei Ideos S7 both have 7-inch screens. The ZTE Light comes with a resistive screen but the Huawei Ideos S7 has a capacitive touch screen. Both screens display at 800 x 480 pixels and 256k colours. They also share the Google Android 2.1 (Eclair) mobile operating system.

Physically, the ZTE Light is slimmer at 12.6mm, in comparison to the 15.5mm Huawei Ideos S7. Also, the ZTE Light’s 403 grams is almost a whopping 100 grams lighter when compared to the Huawei Ideos S7’s 500 grams.

Pop open the hood and you’ll notice the ZTE Light is powered by a 600MHz ARM processor with 512MB RAM, in comparison to the Qualcomm’s slightly more powerful Scorpion 768MHz processor with 512MB RAM on the Huawei Ideos S7.

The Huawei Ideos S7 offers 150MB internal memory and a microSD slot that supports up to 16GB. On the other hand, the ZTE Light only comes with 512MB internal memory but supports a much larger 32GB expandable memory slot. The imager on the ZTE Light is a 3-megapixel camera, but the Huawei Ideos S7 comes with two cameras, both a 2-megapixel camera and a 0.3-megapixel front facing camera.

Connectivity-wise, the ZTE Light and Huawei Ideos S7 both share HSDPA with 7.2Mbps downlink, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1. The ZTE Light is equipped with WiFi hotspot. Both tablets have GSM connectivity, so you can make voice calls and SMS. The 3400mAh battery gives the ZTE Light around 10 hours worth of battery life, then you have the Huawei Ideos S7 which comes with a 2200 mAh battery than should last up to 8.3 hours.

Pricing-wise, the ZTE Light costs RM1399 meanwhile the Huawei Ideos S7 is priced at RM1599. Both devices have their own strengths, but we prefer the Huawei Ideos S7 simply because it has a capacitive screen that should deliver a better experience when handling a device that relies solely on a touchscreen for input. But you will save more by choosing the similarly featured ZTE Light, almost RM200 less than the Huawei Ideos S7.
