09 November 2011 – Asus has announced the details of the next generation Transformer Tablet, the Transformer Prime. The tablet was first revealed at All Things D Asia, but now there is long list of confirmed specs. The Taiwanese firm says that the tablet will go on sale worldwide in December, and is priced at USD $499 (estimated RM 1500) for the 32GB version and USD $599 (estimated RM 1900) for the 64GB model.
The Transformer Prime is an Android 3.2 (Honeycomb) 10.1-inch tablet that has Super IPS + Gorilla Glass with a 1280 x 800 resolution. And it will pack Nvidia Tegra 3, which makes the Transformer Prime the first ever quad-core tablet.
There are more specs, 1GB RAM, GPS, SonicMaster audio, and a mini-HDMI output, microSD slot and an update to Ice Cream Sandwich by the end of 2011. There is an 8-megapixel camera that is able to record 1080p video.
All that hardware is packed inside an 8.3mm aluminium chassis (similar to the ultraportable Zenbooks). It is 586 grams and is touted to be thinner than the iPad 2 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. The chassis and display is covered with hydro-oleophobic coating keeping most of the tablet fingerprint resistant.
If you were wondering about the keyboard dock, it will run you $149, which will boost the tablet’s 12 hour battery life to 18.
