11 December 2009 – The Nokia E71 and Nokia E72 are Blackberry-type full Qwerty keyboard devices in the Nokia ‘E’ range of devices. The ‘E’ range is commonly used to denote Enterprise class devices which are designed with the business user in mind.
The E72 can be said to be the successor model to the E71. Therefore, the question that this article addresses is this: Is it worth the price premium to go for the newer model over the old?
There are a number of minor differences between both devices with two differences in particular likely to affect a purchase decision. The first key difference is that the camera on the E71 is a 3.2 megapixel one, while the E72 has a 5.0 megapixel camera. It is not really a significant difference, as neither device is meant to be used as a professional camera.
The second key difference is the HSDPA speed, which is given as 3.6 Mbps for the E71 and 10.2 Mbps for the E72. At first glance, three times the speed may seem significant. But is it? Does your service provider support that kind of speed? Perhaps more important is if you will be using such speeds all the time given that a handheld has storage limitations.
I think that the difference in HSDPA speed is negligible and so is the difference in the camera rating. Given the current prices at the time of writing, I would go for the older model and spend the RM 400 difference on something else.

Nokia also upgraded the camera to 5 megapixels and added a standard 3.5 mm audio jack.
On top of these developments, for the first time, owners will be able to set up instant messaging (IM) accounts provided by Nokia Messaging direct from the homescreen. In just a few steps, device owners will be able to connect to their favorite IM accounts such as Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk and Ovi, amongst many others.
