Nokia sues Apple– 22 October 2009 

Nokia announced that it has today filed a complaint against Apple with the Federal District Court in Delaware, alleging that Apple’s iPhone infringes Nokia patents for GSM, UMTS and wireless LAN (WLAN) standards. 

AT&T earnings lifted by record iPhone sales – 22 October 2009 

US operator AT&T reported better-than-expected third-quarter profit today thanks to a strong showing in its mobile division, which was boosted by sales of Apple's iPhone. Net income for the quarter totalled US$3.2 billion. 

Thailand's 3G license auction good to go– 22 October 2009 

Thailand's telecoms regulator has confirmed the reserve prices for its long-awaited 3G license auctions and predicted that the process will generate around US$1.2 billion. The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) will start the auction at THB4.6 billion (US$138 million) for each of the three licences of 10MHz bandwidth and THB5.2 billion (US$156 million) for one license of 15MHz.

Google building its own Android phone – 21 October 2009 

Google is planning to launch a branded smartphone that will bypass mobile operators and compete with handset vendors running its own Android platform. 

China Mobile grows 9-month net profit – 19 October 2009 

China Mobile - the world's largest operator by subscribers - today posted a 1.8 percent increase in nine-month profit, reporting net income of CNY83.9 billion (US$12.3 billion) for the January to September period. Sales climbed 8.9 percent to CNY327 billion. ♠ JC
