Motorola may fall to 5th place in sales ranking
Troubled handset maker Motorola is predicted to fall to fifth place in the global ranking for mobile phone sales according to Taiwanese industry sources. According to them, the latest estimates will see Motorola ship only 22-23 million units in the second quarter, as compared to 28.1 million and 24 million units projected for LG and Sony Ericsson.
The sources also mentioned that shipments of basic handsets from Taiwanese ODM manufacturers have risen, which suggests that the sales slump has been stem from the mid to high end of Motorola's handset portfolio.
The decline did in Q2 did not affect Motorola’s positioning for the first two quarters of the year, due to the 50 million handsets launch during that period.
