by Jonathan Cheah (editor@mobile88.com)
23 September 2004 – Nokia today introduced the Nokia 6670, which boasts a megapixel (1152 X 864 pixels) camera. The 6670 is expected to be available in early October 2004 and will come in two variants – GSM 900/1800/1900 for the Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asian markets, and GSM 850/1800/1900 for the America markets.

“We are witnessing a rapid shift from PDAs to smartphones, as manufacturers are able to include voice and PDA functionalities into a single device,” said Juha Putkiranta, Senior Vice President of Multimedia Imaging, Nokia. “With the introduction of the Nokia 6670 imaging smartphone, Nokia is driving the expansion of the smartphone market and strengthening its position to capitalize on this significant growth opportunity.”

The Nokia 6670 offers document viewers for reading e-mail attachments, powerful personal information management (PIM) features, web browser with support for PDF files, and faster data input with the Nokia Wireless Keyboard. Users can also print their emails or images directly from the handset via Bluetooth wireless technology.

In addition to a 65K high-resolution colour display, the 6670 has a 4x digital zoom for both pictures and video recording. A new photo editor application allows the user to enhance the images instantly on the phone screen, and some of the new features are crop, frame, autofix, and add text.

The Nokia 6670 is the first Series 60 product to support mobile antivirus software developed by F-Secure. Security can be further reinforced with the Nokia Mobile VPN (Virtual Private Network) Client and other key security features, such as Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption for web-based applications.

The 6670 also supports the foldable Nokia Wireless Keyboard, and is compatible with the new Nokia Wireless GPS Module which was launched today in a separate announcement.

Weighing 118 grams and measuring 109 x 53 x 21 mm, the Nokia 6670 imaging smartphone is based on Symbian OS, and is expected to retail for approximately 500 euros.
