Microsoft to end support for Cortana on iOS and Android outside the US

Effective 31 January 2020, Microsoft will be ending its support for Cortana, its digital assistant, for the iOS and Android platforms outside the US.

Cortana will instead be integrated into the Microsoft 365 apps, while reminders, list and calendar items made by Cortana will be transferred to the Microsoft To-Do apps. While it may not matter to most individuals, the removal of Cortana from the two platforms could pose an issue for Surface Headphones owners in the future, as it uses the app for updates and features. Microsoft did not disclose how the headphones will continue to function after the deadline.

The overwhelming number of competitors have contributed to the reason behind Microsoft’s decision. First launched for the Windows 10 in 2015, Cortana has since made its way to Android and iOS. At present, Cortana is a core feature on the Xbox One and Surface Headphones.
