Meizu boss criticises hole-in display design

Jack Wong, President of Meizu, has come out on social media to criticize the hole-in display design being employed by certain manufacturers, particularly Huawei for its Nova 4 and Samsung for the Galaxy A8s.

Commenting on a render of a Meizu phone with the hole-in display design shared by a fan, where the camera sensor is inserted on the same plane as the status bar, Wong pointed out that the size of the sensor and the dark spot will be bigger than the size of the icons on the status bar. As such, it will not look that cool in real life. He reaffirmed his earlier opinion that trimming the bezels on the chin and then inserting the camera on the top bezels with both ends symmetrical, is bay far the best option still.

Everything suggests that the company will retain that very design on the Meizu 16s series which is expected to be launched in May 2019. As Meizu’s 2019 flagship device, the Meizu 16s series is likely to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. Other hardware details are still up in the air.
