MCMC to bolster broadband in Sabah, Sarawak through satellites

Tenaga Nasional’s efforts in the support of the National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP) will be further expanded to the east coast. According to Al-Ishsal Ishak, Chairman of Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), projects will be undertaken in Sabah and Sarawak.

These projects will be using satellites as opposed to fiber, which makes sense due to terrain challenges in the two states. Unfortunately, satellite-based Internet services are costlier in comparison. That said,  local satellite ISP, CONNECTme has made their rates more reasonable recently. In any case, it will be interesting to see what the MCMC has in store for the NFCP in Sabah and Sarawak.
