It’s hard to really get excited for new smartphones these days as smartphone advancement has reached a plateau of sorts as far as new features are concerned. How many times have we seen a new smartphone being announced which boasts of this or that new features that weren’t exactly new as we have seen them before in other devices?

The new HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play however, are one of those smartphones that you should get excited about. They are packed with refreshing new technologies and features that not only showcase what a smartphone is capable of doing, but more importantly, are built with you, the user in mind.

But first, let’s talk about design. HTC, known for making the best metal-built phones around, has turned their attention to something new with the U Series. In place of sleek and premium metal is now a beautiful 3D contoured “liquid surface” design that reflects light in stunning fashion under any lighting. Colours from vapoured minerals are also layered in to add depth and brilliance to create an additional shimmer resembling the surface of water.

With smartphone manufacturers now racing to among each other incorporate AI (artificial intelligence) into their devices, HTC is not left behind and both the HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play have their own AI assistance known as HTC Sense Companion. Through the power of machine learning, it provides smart suggestions based on user’s lifestyle and external information such as clothing recommendations based on the days weather, reminder to charge your phone at optimal times to maximize your usage and restaurant recommendations. The more you use it, the more it learns about you and thus able to assist you even more effectively.

Taking convenience to another level, the U Series’s voice recognition system enables you to interact with the devices completely hands-free. You can do things like unlock the phone, take or reject incoming calls, snooze or dismiss an alarm, send message and start a hands-free navigation all just by using your voice.

HTC U Ultra Dual Display

The innovation doesn’t stop there. The HTC U Ultra has an always-on second screen right on top of the main display to give you instant access to information and things that matter most to you. You can call somebody, see your next calendar event, launch your favorite apps or play a music swiftly and easily without interrupting what you are doing.
