Xiaomi fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus globally, and news say the date may not be far off, for the Redmi 5 at least. Leaker @Rquandt tweeted that the Redmi 5 will launch globally in the second half of February, with support for LTE Band 20. The Chinese model will support FDD LTE bands 1, 3, 5, 7, and 8.

What countries it will be available in isn’t known right now, but more details should be soon. The Redmi 5 is Xiaomi’s cheapest phone with 18:9 display, 5.7” with 1440 x 720 resolution and 450 nits of brightness, powered by a Snapdragon 450 mobile platform, 2/3GB RAM and 16/32GB storage, and a 3300mAh battery.

The Redmi 5 has a 12MP rear camera with PDAF and 5MP f/2.2 selfie camera. It has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner too, on top of a triple card slot (dual Nano and MicroSD card), and MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat.
