The HTC Butterfly has just been announced in Japan by KDDI, a local telco in the country. Something interesting about the Butterfly 3 is how its hardware compares to other HTC devices, with the Butterfly 3 having a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 and QHD display, something mostly expected for a flagship device.

As with the others in the series, the Butterfly 3 is made completely out of plastic. It still looks premium though one wouldn’t know yet if it ‘feels’ cheap. If it had a metal body, people would likely be happy to consider the Butterfly 3 HTC’s flagship than the HTC One M9 which wouldn’t come to Malaysia anyway.

The Butterfly 3 packs a sharp 5.2-inch 2560 x 1440 LCD 3 display, snapdragon 810 octa-core processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage which is expandable with a microSD, 20.2-megapixel rear Duo camera, 13-megapixel front camera, IP55/IP57 rating and LTE connectivity. It also has the BoomSound stereo speakers with a more subtle design. While these specs are pretty good, the 2,700 mAh battery is smaller than the HTC One M9 and M9+’s 2,880mAH battery so it probably wouldn’t outlast the other devices.

The HTC Butterfly 3 will be available in Japan early June at an undisclosed price. Chances are that it will never make its way to Malaysia, but there will always the the entrepreneurial types who will bring in the device to those who want it.
