Some Galaxy Note 8 units have died after reaching 0% battery

There are reports claiming that there are Samsung Galaxy Note 8 units which refuse to turn on once they reach 0% battery charge. These owners have gone to Samsung community and forums on sites like Android Central to complain that their Note 8 stopped working after the battery has been completely drained. Samsung has been offering replacements, although it has not issued an official statement as to what the reason may be.

Note 8 Teardown

Worst of all, Samsung seems to be replacing bricked units with refurbished devices, which odd since all units should be covered by a still valid warranty for a new unit. Owners of devices from US telco seem to be most affected, so there is a good chance that the issue is limited to the Snapdragon variant of the device.. The issue does not seem to be widespread, although it is certainly interesting to see a smartphone fail like this.
