Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC announced by Qualcomm

Qualcomm has just announced its new Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC, which as implied in its name is for smartwatches running on Google’s Android Wear OS ecosystem. The new processor serves as a direct successor to the Snapdragon Wear 2100, which was first introduced in 2016.

The new mobile processor boasts a new low-power system architecture and runs on a quad-core A7 Cortex CPU and a QCC1110 co-processor. The co-processor will also apparently “redefine audio, display and sensor experiences” for all next generation Wear OS smartwatches. Furthermore, it features a Deep Learning engine which is capable of handling custom workloads, relieving the primary CPU from more power-hungry tasks.

The Snapdragon Wear 3100 is currently in mass production, with the initial batch of makers including Montblanc, Louis Vuitton and the Fossil Group.
