Samsung patents dual-screen bezel-less smartphone designs

Samsung’s always been working on innovative designs and is in a good place to be the first to release a foldable phone. In the meantime, a new Samsung patent has appeared, giving a preview to what future Galaxy series might be like.

Tha patent shows a phone with a second, smaller display attached on the back, and a bezel-less fullscreen display for the front. The secondary display seems to be similar to the Meizu Pro 7’s and the LG V20, but bigger. Yotaphone models also have dual displays, but those are e-ink displays.

For now, a secondary phone display is apparently felt to be unneeded, but perhaps it’s just to get ready for a future technology. As for the patent itself, the broken lines in the drawing don’t match up to the original design, so this secondary display isn’t part of the patent.

Other than the ultra-thin bezels, there is no front camera or iris scanner on the front design, with the only other features looking to be an earpiece and proximity sensor on the top bezel. In any case, this design of Samsung’s is likely isn’t complete yet. There are straight lines on the bezel which might indicate Samsung would try to even further reduce the bezels on future Galaxy series flagships
