Samsung once again says it does not slow down smartphones

Following the fiasco regarding Apple slowing down iPhone units with older batteries, the concern is whether or not other major makers are doing the same thing. Although Samsung has already denied the matter, an investigation by authorities in Italy has once again prompted the company to repeat itself.

As of time of publication, Samsung has yet to receive any claims of it slowing down its smartphones through planned obsolescence. The company previously stated that it does not reduce CPU performance through software updates over the lifecycles of its smartphones. However, the Italian Authority for Market and Competition announced that both Apple and Samsung did not tell their customers that they release software updates which intentionally slow down their devices and is now investigating the issue.

Samsung has denied the claims and released a statement:

Samsung does not provide the software updates to reduce the product performance over the life cycle of the device. We will fully cooperate with Italian Authority for Market and Competition’s investigation in Italy to clarify the facts.
