Samsung launches the Galaxy S6 Active
As with the Active devices before it, this one is intended to be a rugged Galaxy S6, boasting features such as water and dust resistance. It is even fitted with a larger 3,500mAh battery as well, as opposed to 2,550mAh on the standard Galaxy S6.
This marks the very first time that an Active variant of a Galaxy flagship smartphone is going to feature a bigger battery capacity. In any case, the rest of the specifications are identical, chief among others, a 5.1-inch 2560 x 1440 Super AMOLED display, an Exynos 7420 octa-core processer paired to 3GB of RAM. There is also 32GB of internal memory onboard, just like the original. Unfortunately however, this means that it is not expandable either. In the photography department, you will also find the same 16-megapixel rear shooter and 5-megapixel front-facing camera.
With its IP68 rating, the Galaxy S6 active will be to submerge underwater for up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes and is shock and dust proof with added thermal resistance to boot. As reference, this is exactly what the Sony Xperia Z3 boasted, although Samsung’s offering has a much tougher outer shell. The Samsung Galaxy S6 active will be made available in Camo White, Camo Blue or Gray starting June 12th. As an AT&T exclusive for the United States, there is no telling when it will make its rounds to our neck of the woods, although there are always grey importers you can rely on.
