Samsung could shut down Slovakia factory

Due to the tense situation in the Slovak labour market, Samsung could be the first major company to exit Slovakia. The lack of workers have been a concern, with Samsung considering the possibility of shutting down its plants in the country and shift production elsewhere.

According to news reports however, Samsung is attempting to negotiate the possibility of streamlining the procedures involved in hiring foreigners with the government. This should allow Samsung to continue business. Samsung employs over 2,000 workers combined at its two plants in Slovakia. One of the plants manufacture LCDs while the other assembles the screens.

Of course, Samsung is not the only company that is being troubled by the constantly changing legislation and increasing labour costs in Slovakia. A number of German companies considering plant shutdowns and relocations.
