According to Ming-Chi Kuo, KGI Securities analyst, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 fingerprint sensor will be integrated into the display. While Kuo is mostly known for his predictions about Apple products, he has a good understanding of the electronics supply chain in Asia.

The optical fingerprint sensor will allow users to unlock their device by putting their finger on a certain part of the display. The functionality was initially rumoured for the Galaxy Note 8 as well, but Samsung decided against it at the last minute. As such this means that the smartphone will have an optical fingerprint sensor which wasn’t included in the Galaxy S8 as the technology wasn’t ready.

In fact, there are three companies which are to win the contract from Samsung to supply the part that would power the optical fingerprint sensor, with Samsung LSI and BeyondEyes purportedly having shipped samples to Samsung already.
