Heavy marketing expenditure and thin margin in a smartphone business, Huawei had near-flat profit in March this year. The company had vowed to focus on making more profit, and it seems to have come true by the end of the year.

IDC says  Huawei had a 22.3 market share in the third quarter of this year, with its third position threatened by local brands like OPPO and Vivo. OPPO had a 21.6% market share in the same quarter. Huawei will need to build its market share in western markets, and will start by showcasing the Mate 10 series phones at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018 then make them available through AT&T and Verizon in the US. The Mate 10 had the world’s first chipset equipped with neural processing unit for AI tasks. Hu says the Mate 10 offered AI in the truest sense to consumers, and added the company will continue to innovate in AI and AR in upcoming devices.
