HONOR View20 Debuts Worldwide Boasting 48MP Camera And Flagship Specs

HONOR has officially launched arguably their most impressive smartphone yet to the world. Originally announced in China last month, The HONOR View20 is the company’s biggest signal that they are certainly able to rub shoulders with the elites in the big league. It is a long time coming from the brand used to be known as some sort of an understudy and which only produced specs-inferior phones.

The View20 is a flagship through and through. It certainly has the specs to match – up to 8GB RAM, Kirin 980, at least 128GB of storage, a big generous 4,000mAh battery – and yet these are not the most exciting part of the phone. It is one of the first few smartphones in the industry to adopt the the “hole-punch” screen cutout design with the front camera built right into the upper top left corner of the display (HONOR has a cute way of calling it – Charm Eye) . This helps the phone achieve 91.8% screen-to-body ratio without the controversial notch.

The addition of the cutout does not affect how notification and status icons are shown on the upper display – they are simply moved a little aside. If you are one of those who still prefers the traditional black bar top bezel look, you can enable it in the settings. On another matter, the use of LCD instead of OLED may be a tad disappointing for some, but the View20’s display is no less gorgeous to look at and it shows good viewing angles.

The rear is unlike anything we have ever seen before. HONOR has aptly applied laser-etched V-shaped patterns on its shimmering back surface and it is both fun and trippy to look at. I like that it gives the View20 a whole new identity and will not be surprised to see it appearing in more HONOR phones in the near future. Besides the Midnight Black model that I currently have here, there are also the Sapphire Blue, Phantom Blue and Phantom Red color options. (Note: Only the Phantom Blue, Sapphire Blue and Midnight Black will be made available in Malaysia during its initial launch)

The View20 also debuts a number of cool and advanced technologies and one of them is Link Turbo, which is an AI-powered feature that combines the use of Wi-Fi and 4G signal to boost download speeds on your phone. The phone intelligently switches between connections seamlessly to deliver the optimum speed.

You would not expect a cooling feature in a phone like this so you will be surprised to know that the View20 actually comes with one. Dubbed “The NINE Liquid Cooling Technology”, it will help prevent the phone from getting too hot to handle when running intensive tasks.

Meanwhile, the camera is one of most-hyped about feature of the View20 and it is not hard to see why. The View20 boasts of introducing the world’s first 48MP camera (there has been another phone with a similar camera since), which is the highest megapixels count on a smartphone so far. It uses the Sony IMX586 sensor and has an aperture of f/1.8. Though it does not have a secondary rear camera in the traditional sense, the View20 does pack a new 3D TOF (Time of Flight) camera alongside its main lens. This unique sensor is dedicated to improving 3D object recognition by combining a transmitter and receiver inside that secondary module to accurately triangulate the distance between the phone and an object in 3D space.

Here’s a look at all the key specs of the HONOR View20
