Google takes away Huawei’s access to Android hardware, software and technical services

Google has just issued a suspension on Huawei’s license to use its hardware, software and technical services, according to a report by Reuters. The move is in compliance with the ban imposed on the company by the US government.

Implications of this suspension on Huawei includes the loss of access to Android updates and the ability to use the standard version of the OS. We say standard because Huawei will still have access to the bare bones version of Android known as the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) which does not need Google’s approval. Regardless, Huawei is also likely to lose access to services such as Google Play, Gmail and YouTube, among other things. Of course, all Huawei customers are inadvertently affected by the move, although this is unlikely to impact those in China in any case.

No detailed confirmation has been provided by Google, although it stayed the Google Play and Google Play Protect will still function for existing Huawei devices.
