Apple to pay Qualcomm for patent infringements

A US federal court has found Apple guilty of infringing on three Qualcomm patents, resulting in Cupertino having to cough up USD 31mn (MYR 126.39mn). The payment translates to approximately USD 1.41 per iPhone.

At the moment, it is known if Apple will appeal the decision. Regardless this is nothing new as the two companies have engaged in several legal battles in the past. In one instance, Apple argued that the practice of Qualcomm getting cut from the selling price of each device in exchange for patent licences while still being paid for its chips is unfair. Qualcomm argues that there was nothing wrong with its business model. This case itself will be heard in April 2019 with much more money at stake.
