Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 Lets You Answer Calls Upside Down

Have you ever, in a moment of rush, fish out your mobile phone from your pocket or bag in haste and then barked repeatedly onto it only to realize that you are holding it upside down? The folks at Alcatel must have had this “oops” experience one time too many and designed a phone to address this problem once and for all.

The phone in question is the OneTouch Idol 3 that lets you answer calls whichever way you hold the phone (just not inside out, please). Alcatel made this possible by putting in speakers and microphones on both ends of the front panel. Simple. Unfortunately, they will be powerless to do anything to stop the weird stares and muffed giggles from amused onlookers.

The OneTouch Idol 3 actually comes in two variants, one with a 4.7-inch display and the other with a phablet-sized 5.5-incher. While the former is equipped with a mediocre 720p display, 64bit quad-core processor with Qualcomm Snapdragon 410, 5MP front camera and 2,000mAh battery, the latter expectedly packs better specs in a 1080p display, octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor, 16GB internal storage memory which is expandable tops 128GB, 13MP rear camera coupled with a 8MP front snapper and a 2,910mAh battery. Both variants run Android 5.0.2 Lollipop natively.

The 4.7-inch OneTouch Idol 3 will retail at €199 (around RM800) and its bigger sibling at €249 (around RM1,010). However, since smartphones are generally priced higher in European countries than other markets, do expect lower prices if it ever comes to Malaysia.
