90Hz displays are difficult according to OnePlus

OnePlus officially shares the industry’s first 90Hz experimental report from Samsung’s Display R&D Center in Korea. Samsung’s R&D Center Image Quality Analysis Department is made of dozens of senior screen development experts from South Korea. These people quantify and study screen quality, publishing regular papers in industry associations within the nation and abroad.

The latest study was done on the OnePlus 7 Pro’s screen at 90Hz, put against the One Plus 6T’s 60Hz. The experimental results are currently as such: the 90Hz fluid screen, using Samsung’s latest AMOLED tech, has a 40% higher dynamic picture response speed (MPRT) to the OnePlus 6T. The high refresh rate at 90Hz helps achieve a faster picture refresh rate, for better and faster elimination of visual residue for a smoother user experience.

Samsung Display wants a new era of high refresh display-equipped smartphones to start, since the OnePlus 7 Pro became available in May this year. OnePlus also provided a list of advantages of the screen, namely:

  • The 90Hz screen refresh rate is 50% higher than that of a normal 60Hz mobile phone;
  • 1000 nits peak brightness, the screen is clear under strong light;
  • HDR10+ certification, without over-exposing and with more details in dark parts;
  • TUV low blue eye protection, 40% blue light filtering;
  • Color reading mode makes reading more pleasing.
