Father of Final Fantasy Tactics gives birth to new game, Unsung Story: Tale of Guardians

You may not know Yasumi Matsuno by his name, but if you’re a fan of SRPGs, then you will be familiar with his works at least. He’s the man responsible for Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together, two titles that are highly regarded as one of the best games in the genre.

Unsung Story - Tale of Guardians

Matsuno is now looking to release his latest project Unsung Story for iOS, Android, 3DS, and the PS Vita, though this time around it will be done independently. That’s right, he is eliciting the help of Kickstarter, and thus needs your contribution to make the game a reality. Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians is a throwback to the classic tactical RPG genre that Matsuno helped contribute to.

Plans on the game is still somewhat sketchy so far, but what we do know is that it will be two games. The first is a digital card game that’s due out later this year aimed at introducing players to the world of Unsung Story. The second game is of course a proper turn-based tactics affair fought on a 3D-landscape with a player-controller camera. Units have individual professions, and each profession has multiple classes within it. Intrigued?

Unsung Story will be released for the iOS and Android if it can raise $600,000 over on Kickstarter. For handhelds, we’re looking at triple that amount, so you better start chipping in right away.
